The designer couple without children set up a large area in Yang-pyeong, Gyeong-gi Province, which is peaceful area. They sometimes work at home, but they want to have minimal space and efficient movement as much time as they have to spend outside. Workrooms with less outside’s interference were also needed because there were times when they work overtime at home.
It is 476m² land located on the corner of the second type of residential area. It is not far from Seoul by car, but it was perfect for couples who wanted to work and rest because it was a place with a wide natural landscape. The key was to ensure that the simple and modern form of the house could be emphasized, but that the open surroundings could be fully enjoyed inside.
It is a small house composed of only essential elements for architectural couples who spend less time at home. The busier, the more important the life that takes place in the house, even for a short time, was judged to be more important, leading residents to analyze their lives on their own and zoning out the necessary space themselves. Although the mass and exterior are simple forms and materials, the surrounding landscape is framed through a large window. Bedrooms, dress rooms and bathrooms were concentrated in a single space (two stories) and separated the kitchen and living room and workroom on the first floor.
The appearance of the restrained line omits unnecessary details to emphasize the architectural function but also the form beauty. The structure of the building's walls and terraces, all of which look like a single large mass, makes the building feel more magnificent than the actual area.
1F - Kitchen & Workroom
The first floor of the rich mining area consisted of a wide kitchen and workroom. The kitchen, which also serves as a living room, was placed in a straight line along the wide window, while the studio was trying to secure a high ceiling by providing a short cut to reduce outside interference. It is mainly a space that gives positive energy to couples who do morning work at home and go to work.
2F - hotel-like studio apartment
The second floor was designed as a private space, focusing on the two's lifestyles. It is composed of one large space, like a hotel, and concentrated bedroom, dress room, bathroom, and rest area. The functions and roles of each space are distinguished solely by the layout of the household, the architectural structure, and the movement.
